Team effort helps UC Irvine defeat Cal State San Marcos 66-32 in exhibition

In a tune-up before the regular season, UCI defeated Cal State San Marcos 66-32 at the Bren Center Tuesday

UC Irvine built an 18-point halftime lead and never looked back as the Anteaters defeated Cal State San Marcos, 66-32 in an exhibition contest at the Bren Center Tuesday.

UCI junior forward Jasmine Bernard posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while sophomore forward Camille Buckley added 12 points and seven boards and junior guard Vanessa Aguilar scored 11 points to lead the Anteaters. Aguilar went 4-4 from the field, hitting 3-3 from three-point range. Transfer Jennifer Tsurumoto totaled nine points and three assists and forward Methlyn Onogomuho tallied six points.

All 12 players saw minutes in double-figures with 11 of 12 players scoring at least one point and grabbing at least one rebound.

In the first half, UCI led 18-10 at 8:03 then closed out the half on a 14-4 run to lead 32-14 at intermission. The Anteaters held the 47-27 advantage with 8:26 left then scored 15 straight to pull away 62-27 at 2:25.

Danielle Cooper was the lone Cal State San Marcos player in double-figure scoring with 13. She also recorded a game-high 12 rebounds.

UCI will host Concordia next Tuesday (Nov. 8) in the final exhibition game at 7:00 p.m. in the Bren Center.
